Two rival women compete for the affections of the artist in "Table of Negotiations" after each of them has discovered the existence of the other. Caught in the middle of their dispute, his desire stands between them in the vase of blue roses on the table. The moment is suspended in time, with neither woman the victor, because it is the pursuit, not the possession, which fuels the intensity of their opposition.
